Brendel O. Forensic examination of video and audio analysis: theoretical and organizational principles

The dissertation is devoted to development of theoretical, methodical and forensic recommendations for assignment and conducting forensic video and audio analysis. It was noted that forensic video and audio analysis (from the field of knowledge that studies special group of special traces, namely sound or video traces), compared to other branches and sub-branches of forensic science, was going through a difficult stage of formation and rapid development of scientific and applied potential in conditions of scientific and technical progress. It was established that from the very beginning forensic speech and audio analysis was born as forensic linguistic examination, when linguists perceived a person’s speech by ear; determined certain pronunciation specifics, diction, availability of dialects, general style of conversation, etc., and based on this, concluded that the voice and speech belong to a particular person. Nowadays, while development of technology and physical methods of fixing and perceiving sound signals, instrumental acoustic research methods come to the fore. It has been proven that three important stages can be distinguished in the history of forensic speech and audio analysis: invention of sound recording and reproduction devices; invention of speech visualization devices; transferring sound description from original (tangible) to digital (computer) form.
