The dissertation conducts a comprehensive study of the public-political and educational activities of Bohdan Khavarivskyi (1948–2016). An analysis of the existing historiographical base on the researched issues was carried out, which showed that the declared topic was studied by researchers only in the general context of local history of the second half of the 20th – early 21st century. However, it is not systematically structured and holistic, does not comprehensively reveal the problem as a whole, but only superficially, so the insufficient study of this problem required further subject research, which would contribute to a deeper analysis of the public-political and educational activities of B. Khavarivskyi in the outlined period. In Ukrainian historiography, to this day, there is no thorough scientific historical research that would analyze the public-political and educational activities of B. Khavarivskyi. Moreover, researchers in general historical works practically do not mention him.
The existing historiographical base on the researched issues can be conditionally divided into the following groups: the first group includes general works on the modern history of Ukraine, state independence and state-building processes, the national liberation movement, political history; the second group includes works related to the People’s Movement of Ukraine, to which B. Khavariivskyi belonged; the third group includes studies by contemporary Ukrainian scientists on the history of culture, periodicals, the peculiarities of the formation of the «Soviet person» etc. It was established that they differ in the methodological approaches used by historians.
The works of the first group contributed to the understanding of the environment both in Soviet times and in the period of independent Ukraine, in which B. Khavarivskyi had to grow as a personality, form as a public-political and educational figure. Nevertheless, despite the solidity and significance of the mentioned publications, the declared problem is not given due attention, considering that the authors did not set themselves the task of analyzing the public-
political and educational activities of B. Khavarivskyi during 1948–2016. The second group includes works related to the People’s Movement of Ukraine, to which B. Khavarivskyi belonged. The third group includes studies by scientists on the history of Ukrainian culture, periodicals, the peculiarities of the formation of the «Soviet person» etc.
It has been found that B. Khavarivskyi’s development was rooted in the traditions of family upbringing. His parents and teachers stimulated him to draw, write poems, recite, and sing. Bohdan-Roman was a well-rounded individual who managed to realize his talents in his later life. His activities during his studies at the Faculty of Philology of Chernivtsi State University have been traced: he attended the Stepan Budnyi literary studio, designed and edited its handwritten newspapers
«Soniachni Klarnety» and «Veselyi Ostap», and gave presentations at scientific conferences. His acquaintance with prominent figures of Ukrainian science and culture in Chernivtsi contributed to his formation as a mature individual with an active civic position and deep national convictions.
