Essay

The thesis provides a theoretical generalization and solves the scientific task of forming the foreign language and terminological competence of future officers of missile and artillery weapons. The scientific novelty of the results obtained is that: for the first time: the effectiveness of pedagogical conditions for the formation of foreign language and terminological competence of future missile and artillery officers (structuring the content of educational information in philological disciplines; using the method of communicative models in teaching a foreign (English) language; organisation of self-education of future missile and artillery officers in order to develop skills in working with various sources of foreign professionally oriented information) was theoretically substantiated and experimentally tested; the essence of the concept of ‘foreign language and terminological competence of future missile and artillery officers’ (integrative personal and professional education, which combines the ability of an officer of missile and artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to effectively perform their professional functions and duties with the accurate and appropriate use of foreign military terms in professional activities, operation of professional terminology, as well as a set of knowledge, skills and abilities for the effective use of foreign (English) language in professional activities); the diagnostic apparatus for determining the state of formation of foreign language and terminological competence of future officers of missile and artillery weapons has been improved through the use of criteria (cognitive, motivational, activity and personal), corresponding indicators and characteristics of the levels (basic, medium and high) of the formation of this characteristic; the scientific ideas about the content and structure of the foreign language and terminology competence of future officers of rocket and artillery weapons as a unity of linguistic, discursive, professional, strategic and reflective components; the process of forming the foreign language and terminology competence of future officers of rocket and artillery weapons due to the developed structural and functional model of forming the foreign language and terminology competence of future officers of rocket and artillery weapons were further developed. The practical significance of the results obtained is that: situational tasks of a problematic nature, case studies, discussions, trainings involving in-depth mastery of English and professionally oriented terminology were introduced into the content of the programme of study «Fundamentals of Military Management (including NATO Staff Procedures)», «Fundamentals of the theory of reliability and operation of rocket and artillery weapons», «Fundamentals of construction of rocket and artillery weapons and repair facilities», «Foreign language»; methodological recommendations were prepared for scientific and pedagogical staff of higher military educational institutions on the formation of foreign language and terminological competence of future officers of rocket and artillery weapons in the process of professional training. The findings of the study can be used in the system of professional training of future officers of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as law enforcement agencies and other law enforcement agencies. In the future, the results of the study, subject to the adaptation of the developed materials, can be used to conduct professional training classes with various categories of personnel, at retraining and advanced training courses.
