Studying the life path and scientific activities of Ukrainian figures creates an opportunity to more thoroughly comprehend historical events and phenomena, to understand what processes took place in society through the prism of personal biography. Among the wide range of outstanding historians who have made a lot of efforts in the field of formation of modern Ukrainian historiography, with their professionalism created a solid socio-cultural and scientific base for the formation of future scientists, the figure of Yuri Anatolyevich Pinchuk attracts attention. Yu.A. Pinchuk is a doctor of historical sciences, professor, “Excellent Education Worker of Ukraine”, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Laureate of the M.I. Kostomarov Prize of the NAS of Ukraine (1993), Academician of the International Slavic Academy of Sciences (1998), Honorary Professor of the National University “Chernihiv Collegium” named after T.G. Shevchenko (2007), repeatedly awarded with diplomas of the Verkhovna Rada and medals, a scholarship holder of the President of Ukraine, the author of a number of studies on Ukrainian historiography and source studies, in particular works dedicated to M.I. Kostomarov, M.S. Hrushevsky, D.I. Doroshenko and others, the founder of the scientific forum "Kostomarov Readings" in Chernihiv.
The relevance of the study is substantiated, its object, subject, goal and objectives are determined, the scientific novelty, practical significance of the results obtained are highlighted.
The generalization of the life path and scientific activity of Yu.A. Pinchuk was carried out on the basis of general scientific principles of historicism, objectivity and multifactoriality.
The theoretical and methodological basis of the dissertation is made up of general scientific (method of analysis and synthesis, logical, historical-descriptive and specific-search) and special-historical (problem-chronological, historiographical analysis, network analysis, biographical, comparative-historical, structural-personal, historical-typological, historical-systemic and diachronic) research methods.
The analysis of documents and materials allowed them to be conditionally divided into several groups:
- materials of a biographical nature;
- materials of a professional nature (work at the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the M.S. Hrushevsky Institute of Ukrainian Archeography and Source Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine);
- materials that highlight scientific activity (areas of research, events, personalities), in particular, dedicated to Kostomar studies;
- materials that represent Yu.A. Pinchuk as a teacher, scientific supervisor and mentor.
The source base of the work is represented by office documents, materials of personal origin, scientific periodicals, historiography and direct testimonies of colleagues, students, family members. Also, in the process of research, visual sources were used, primarily photo documents.
The funds of archives, libraries and museums of Ukraine were processed, namely: the Institute of Manuscripts of the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine, the State Archive of the Kyiv Region, the Scientific Archive of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine, the Scientific Archive of the M.S. Hrushevsky Institute of Ukrainian Archeography and Source Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, the archive of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine, the electronic library of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine, the National Historical Library of Ukraine, the State Archive of the Chernihiv Region, the Chernihiv Regional Historical Museum named after V.V. Tarnovsky, the Chernihiv Regional Universal Scientific Library named after Sofia and Oleksandr Rusov, the archive of the Chernihiv Collegium National University named after T.H. Shevchenko, and the private archive of the Pinchuk family.
